Holy Family

Today is the feast of the Holy Family. The second reading is Col 12-21. The first part (12-17) reads:
Brothers and sisters:
Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another;
as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.
And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
I think I can say I am thankful for knowing and have known the Kat. My sadness at the current state of affairs may impede patience and compassion.

reset button

A few minutes ago, I tried to link to the Internet to no avail. I reset the DSL modem which showed that the connection to the outisde world was there, but I had no connection from the laptop to the modem. I looked for a reset method on the laptop but could not find one. So I powered off the laptop as is the recommended method for little boxes.

I think our relationship needs reseting. No such button exists. What is the metaphor for "powering down and back up"? I don't know and even hesitate to pursue the thought.

Vatican declares Knights of Columbus founder "venerable"

Fr. Michael J. McGivney would be first American-born priest to be declared a saint

New Haven CT - 2008Mar16 - Pope Benedict XVI Saturday approved a decree recognizing the heroic virtue of Father Michael J. McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus. The pope's declaration significantly advances the priest's process toward sainthood and gives the parish priest the distinction of "Venerable Servant of God." If canonized, Fr. McGivney would be the first American born priest to be so honored.

All of us who are members of the Knights of Columbus are profoundly grateful for this recognition of the holiness of our founder,
said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson.
The strength of the Knights of Columbus today is a testament to his timeless vision, his holiness and his ideals.

Worried about the religious faith and financial stability of immigrant families, Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus with the help of several men of St. Mary's Parish in New Haven in 1882 to help strengthen the faith of the men of his parish and to provide financial assistance in the event of their death to the widows and orphans they left behind. He was also known for his tireless work among his parishioners.

Born in Waterbury CT, 1852Aug12, Michael Joseph McGivney, was the first of Patrick and Mary (Lynch) McGivney's 13 children, six of whom died in infancy or early childhood. His parents, natives of Ireland, had immigrated to the United States during the 19th century. Patrick was a molder in a Waterbury brass mill, where Michael himself worked for a brief time as a child to help support his family.

From an early age, however, he realized a calling to the Catholic priesthood. After studying in several seminaries, he was ordained in that Baltimore's historic Cathedral by Cardinal James Gibbons 1877Dec22. He took up his first assignment, as curate at St. Mary's Church, New Haven CT, 1878Jan2. Father McGivney was named pastor of St. Thomas Church in Thomaston CT in 1884. He became seriously ill with pneumonia in 1890Jan, and died 1890Aug14 at age 38.

The cause, or process, for Father McGivney's sainthood, was opened by Hartford Archbishop Daniel A. Cronin, in 1997Dec. The cause was presented to the Vatican in 2000, where it has been under review by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. With the pope's recent decree, and the authentication of a miracle at Father McGivney's intercession, the priest could be beatified. A second miracle would be required for canonization.

Still maintaining its headquarters in New Haven, the Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic Fraternal Organization with more than 1.7 million members in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America, the Caribbean islands, the Philippines, Guam and, most recently, Poland.

Curled on the sofa, or climbing a tree?

prayer request

Bobbi Anderson, loving wife of SK Bill Anderson, our dear sister in Christ, friend, catechist, spiritual guide and mentor, has begun a battle with Lung Cancer. She has already begun radiation treatments on the lesions in her brain.

from her husband:

Fellow Knights, I would like to request your prayers for my wife Bobbie whom
most of you know. She has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer which has also gotten
into her brain. She has been in Piedmont Hospital since the 26th. after having a Biopsy done her lung collapsed. She has been on a suction which draws out the air from outside her lung. Hopefully they can remove this tomorrow (Wednesday) and she can come home. She has had 2 radiation treatments for the Cancer in her Brain
and will have 8 more in the next 4 or 5 days. The Drs. believe this clear up the Cancer in her brain and they can then start Chemotherapy for lungs. She is in good spirits even though the prognosis is not real good. Please pray for her and me and our whole family
